Delicious bourbon cocktail made with fresh, ripe plumbs, mint, orange liqueur and lemon.
This whole staying home and not being able to go anywhere is starting to get to me. This pandemic is terrible and I feel like I’m drinking now more because of it.
Oh, you too?
Good… glad I’m not alone in this. Haha!
Since the liquor store is considered “essential” and, therefore, still open… I have found myself perusing the aisles more often lately. Unfortunately, I haven’t really ventured too far outside of my comfort zone but we’re still whipping up fun cocktails either way.
Today I’m bringing you this delicious Bourbon Plum Smash. I love that plums are in the stores currently and have been buying them for the kiddos.
Man, I remember eating a ton of plums when I was a kid. My brother and I love them and would nearly eat the whole bag the same day that mom brought them home to us.
I thought my kids would love them as much as we did but they haven’t been eating them as quick as I had hoped. I didn’t want any to go bad so I stuck them in a cocktail instead.
This recipe makes only 1 drink with half of a plum, so you can just double the ingredients for 2 drinks with a full plum.
Start by cutting the plum in half, then the half into 4 pieces. Add the plum, simple syrup, and lemon juice to the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
Using the end of a wooden spoon, or drink muddler, muddle the ingredients until the plum is full smashed and the juices are combined.
Add the mint leaves and muddle lightly for a couple more seconds. Then fill the shaker half-way with ice adding the orange liqueur and bourbon.
Cover and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to thoroughly combine and chill the drink.
Double strain over a rocks glass filled with fresh ice and garnish with some mint leaves and plum slices, if desired.
- 1/2 plum cut in 4 pieces
- 4 fresh mint leaves
- 1/4 oz simple syrup
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- 1 oz orange liqueur
- 2 oz bourbon
- In a cocktail shaker, add plums, mint leaves, simple syrup and lemon juice. Muddle until the plums are fully smashed and juice released.
- Add orange liqueur and bourbon then fill shaker 1/2 way with fresh ice. Cover and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Strain into rocks glass filled with fresh, crushed ice. Serve garnished with plum slice and fresh sprig of mint.
