Being a new mom again, for the 4th time, means that I don’t have too much time for myself currently. Days (and nights) are filled with diaper changes, bottles and feedings, spit-up, and cute little baby snuggles.

However, as a mom I know that self-care is super important and a priority I try and make for myself. Moms need, more than ever, to practice self-care and make sure they are tending to their needs or they won’t be able to tend to the needs of others. If I am unable to take time for myself every once in a while and keep my cup full, then how am I supposed to do that for my littles and running a household?

Essential Self-Care Practices

Before I had kids, I would make bold decisions in my self-care practices… like packing up on a whim and heading out for the weekend or making the quick decision to go on a date night with the hubby without having to arrange a baby sitter.

Now, making bold choices in self-care mean something a little different but thankfully self-care choices can mean all kinds of things and can mold to work for you. Essentials of self-care mean, at the most basic level, getting enough rest, feeding our bodies, washing and dressing ourselves.

However, making bold choices with self-care practices tends make us feel much better and rested and ready to tackle anything that the days or weeks will throw at us.

Give yourself permission to sleep in

With a husband who works crazy hours and a brand new baby, this one is super tough for me. However, on the days that he has off I definitely divert to him for parenting duties in the morning so that I can get a few extra Z’s and wake up feeling rested. I make sure that on these days I don’t have any plans in the morning with the kiddos so I can sleep and wake up and do absolutely nothing.

These are also the mornings that I cherish as the hubby and I have time to make coffee together and just enjoy each other’s company… even if the kiddos are running amuck around the house. Sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee like Folger’s new, premium 1850 Brand Coffee with its bold flavor and smooth profile give me the energy to keep up with kids throughout the day.

Take 10…

On the mornings that I am unable to sleep in, I like to actually get up about 30 minutes before I know that everyone else will be getting up and spending that time to just be with myself and the quiet of the morning. I start by brewing a pot of 1850 Brand Coffee with it’s bold and smooth – never bitter taste – and just sit in the quiet of the house savoring the flavor. 1850 Brand coffee has coffee shop taste and flavor but is not exclusively dark roasted so it’s perfect for my mornings alone.

Other times when I’m feeling stressed or tense, I give myself permission to just take a time out and recharge. I either head outside (when it’s warm) or into the bathroom and lock the door. I just sit, decompress, and calm my nerves before getting back with the kids.

You can also decide to do a little meditation, write in a journal, or stretch and do some yoga.

Do something you love

As a full time mom who also works at home full time, I know all too well how my hobbies and things that I love doing can be pushed to the side or forgotten all together. We all need to make time for things that we love, though, as it makes a huge difference in energy and mood. Even if it’s just 15 minutes to read a few chapters of a book or long enough to meet a friend for lunch.

When I am meeting a friend for lunch, I usually always bring a ready to drink coffee with me on the drive. Luckily 1850 Brand Coffee is available in 3 Ready to Drink flavors (Mocha, Sweet Cream, and Vanilla) and available in four signature blends of Ground and K-Cup coffee.

Treat yourself

Treating yourself can mean a whole host of different things… from eating your favorite food, to buying yourself that new outfit, to sitting in the quite of the morning (like me), or taking a long bath at the end of a long day.

Everyone deserves a little treat and you are totally worth it!

Move your body

Exercise is one of my favorite “me time” activities. Yes, I workout at home but I am still able to get away for 30-45 minutes to get a good sweat on and feel great at the same time. Getting that time for myself everyday with my workout shows my family and my body that I care for it and want to be around for a long time.

You don’t have to sign up for a gym membership or start a new routine to move your body… just get out of the house and play with the kids in the backyard or take everyone on a walk around the neighborhood. Going for a simple walk around the neighborhood is my favorite thing to do with the kids and something that I do everyday when weather allows.

Start saying “no”

You definitely don’t have to please everyone all of the time. When I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed then I just start politely declining and saying no to people or things that will add to that stress.

Don’t be afraid to be honest with people, I can guarantee that they will understand and will be supportive of your saying no.

Spend time with your favorite people

My family is my number one priority and even though having four little kids is stressful, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Even if they are crazy some days, spending time with them is my absolute favorite thing to do – whether that’s making the bold decision first thing in the morning to drive 2 hours to Chicago for the day or just head out to the beach and enjoy the sunshine or just stay home making pillow forts. Whatever that is, I’m in.

Every bold life starts with a bold choice and every bold day has a morning. J.A. Folger started something new and innovative back in 1850 to help the prospectors as they sought their fortunes. There is still no better way, today, to start your day and get after it than with a bold-yet-smooth cup of coffee. 1850 Brand Coffee is the official coffee for bold people fueling original ideas, new commitments, and bold decisions – becoming the ally to the hustle of the day.
