Last month, I decided to take on the gigantic task of installing all new floors on the main level of my home… about 1000 sq. ft. of new flooring! I installed the new flooring myself while my hubby watched the kids and my mom came behind and did the 1/4 round for the baseboards and install the transition pieces.
It was a lot of work but I feel so accomplished and the floors turned out beautiful.
While I have not yet posted a full before and after of the transformation, because I wanted to wait on my new counter tops (which come later today!!), I wanted to share with you some quick cleaning tips and how I keep my new hardwood floors clean and my home tidy without spending all day cleaning.
Know the Hot Spots:
My new floors are “hot spots” for dust and debris. I have children. And a cat and dog. The combination of these three with new floors can really lead to disaster when it comes to house cleanliness.
My dog is corgi and sheds a lot <– this is not an exaggeration, I truly mean a lot!
With the previous carpet, the dog hair would get caught in the carpet and matted down… no matter how much I vacuumed or cleaned, there was still dog and cat hair everywhere.
Now, with the new floors, instead of the hair being caught in the carpet it just floats on the surface of the hardwood floors and you can see all the little white hairs everywhere. Not too big of a deal, however, I now have to vacuum just about daily to keep the hair from taking over.
The Dirt Devil® 360° Reach™ makes keeping up with the dog & cat hair and children a breeze and keeps me from going insane with daily vacuuming.
Pick the right tool for the job:
There are 5 separate cleaning tools to help make cleaning easier and faster. The Dirt Devil 360° Reach can go from hardwood floors to rug to couches (for the crumbs and spills from the kids) to stairs in just seconds.
Since I usually cannot just bust out a quick clean and end up seeing other things that need to be cleaned “real quick” also… like the stairs and cat hair all over that. With a quick switch of the head, I can give the stairs a thorough vacuum in under 5 minutes.
The tool that I love the most is the Vac+Dust Tools with SWIPES™. If I cannot quite reach into a corner or completely under the couch with the extended reach vacuum or crevice tool, the washable SWIPES™ microfiber pad will pick up the stray and rogue hairs that I cannot quite see.
It is also great for dusting the baseboards while vacuuming the floors.
Clean as you go:
Recently, my 15-month-old discovered a large plant over in our dining room and has decided that pulling all the dirt out of the pot and onto the floor is funny. She also has started eating the dirt… but that is a different story.
So, when I notice the dirt on her face and hands, I just grab the Dirt Devil 360° Reach and it sucks up all the dirt that has now made its way to the floor without hesitation.
It also has a 27 ft. power cord that reaches around the entire house without me having to unplug and re-plug in a different area to get to all the places that need vacuuming. Which makes it super amazing for busting out and cleaning the floors quickly after meals or messes.
So there you have it… my top 3 quick cleaning tips to help stay on top of your household chores and keep cleaning quick and simple.
