When I used to live in Florida, every year we would go to the strawberry festival.
Yes. A festival dedicated to everything strawberry. Maybe you’ve heard of it? We even got a day off from school for it. Not joking.
It was basically a little carnival dedicated to everything strawberry and probably just another reason to have a party, which I won’t say no to.
We usually didn’t end up going to the strawberry festival when I had the day off from school because it was wayyy too crowded that day but we always went.

One of the things that I looked forward to the most there was their homemade strawberry shortcake. The line for it was usually always the longest and you would get to go and basically make your own strawberry shortcake.
When you got to the front of the line they would give you a little plastic bowl with two pieces of shortcake.
You would then wind your way through the rest of the “buffet” of strawberries, ice cream, whipped cream, strawberry sauce, and chocolate sauce adding as much or as little as you like to make your ultimate strawberry shortcake dessert.
As a kid, I would always pile mine way too high and then end up eating only half of it, but devouring all the strawberries I could.

I definitely miss going there since moving but my mom has said that it’s not quite the same as it used to be.
Oh well, I still think I’ll head back there one last time, just to see, if we ever make it back to Florida during that time.
In the meantime though, I have found a way to get that great strawberry shortcake flavor in a smoothie form. Since I’m all about smoothies and shakes on this blog, I found it only fitting.
Maybe this spring I’ll make the real thing for you.
For now, this strawberry shortcake smoothie will have to do and I must say that whenever I make one it definitely takes me back to my strawberry festival days.

Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup strawberries frozen
- 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 2 tsp butter extract
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth and desired consistency is reached.
- If smoothie is too thick, add more almond milk.
- If smoothie is too thin, add more strawberries or ice.
Such a brilliant idea and your pictures are just gorgeous. Thanks for linking up with us for Fabulous Foodie Fridays, I hope you have a great weekend 🙂
Sweet! Another day off from school to celebrate the delicious strawberry?!? How awesome?! Loving this recipe and the addition of the butter extract in this is just genius! Can’t wait to try it! Thanks for sharing!
Yes! We had a lot of days off for some weird things… like the strawberry festival and also the state fair. Whateves, kids like it.
Looks yummy!!!
This sounds great. I love strawberry smoothies.
I’m loving smoothies at the moment and this looks delicious. Thank you for linking up to YWF .
This looks awesome, I’m so glad you shared with us at Throwback Thursday # 12!
This year will be the first year we will not have our own strawberries in about 6 years… Our plot was poor this year so I ploughed it over and will be starting again, so will have very few until 2017… Love these pictures that look super!
Awe, that’s terrible! I would love to have my own little garden for fresh fruits and veggies. I have a herb garden currently… but it’s struggling.
We have a little strawberry festival around these parts too! I love that you shared this, I used to be obsessed with the strawberry shortcake milkshake from Sonic, this sounds a bit healthier and is absolutely beautiful! Love it!
Do you really?! That’s awesome! I’ve never heard of one except for in Pasco county where I use to live. And yes, I’m sure this one has much less calories than the one from Sonic!
Strawberries just make me super happy 🙂 And I love the fact that you used butter extract in it! Brilliant! and perfect for that shortcake taste 🙂
My hometown had a pickle festival… not quite smoothie material. You win! 😉
Pickle festival?!? That sounds awesome!
We had a strawberry festival out in California! It was basically a carnival, with a strawberry themed pavilion and strawberry activities sponsored by the local farmers. I think one local farm around here tries to do the same thing, but it’s not as large by any means. Even the one in California didn’t get anyone a day off!
What? I’m so glad to hear that Florida wasn’t the only on e who had a strawberry festival… though it seems like we’re the only ones that gave kids a day off from school?? Something’s not right there…
Looks so yummy! I’m not a smoothy type of guy at all – mostly because I don’t like the texture – but, I could easily get down with this one! No grass or powders; yup! Would work for me for sure!
