Over the years, my skincare routine has definitely ebbed and flowed. A lot of it has to do with ageing but some also due to learning about how different ingredients interact with my skin.
After having my last baby, my skin was a wreck. My hormones did a number on me and I developed adult acne that I could not get rid of.
And before you ask if I tried XYZ, yes… I tried anything and everything under the sun. Finally after 2 years of trying to battle it on my own, I went to a derm and got a few prescriptions.
Unfortunately, again, none of them worked until I was finally put on acutane for a few months. This was literally the hail mary last treatment that would work. Fortunately, it did!
I’ve been on it for a couple months now and my skin is starting to show the side effects more – super dry and super chapped lips. I’ve only got a couple more months left but so far my acne is gone and I am a happy camper – despite the nasty side effects.
So all that to say, I’ve upgraded my skincare routine once again from the previous post I did a couple years ago. I’m using gentler cleansers, chemical exfoliants instead of physical, and more moisturizing products to help combat the dryness that I’m left with.
I do have to say that I am very happy with this current routine and will hopefully be sticking with it for some time.
Let’s see everything that has changed since 2019.
Reusable Makeup Remover Pads
I used to buy those cotton rounds in bulk at Costco until I realized that using them as frequently as I did wasn’t helping the environment. So I took to amazon to find a similar product that would be better. These fit the bill and are the prefect size for getting my eye makeup off.
Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads
my sister introduced me to these and I fell in love. They smell great and give a gentle exfoliation all over your face and neck. They say they can be used twice a day but I currently use them every couple days with the already dry skin I have. I do plan on using them every night once I’m off the acutane.
Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer
I love this drug-store moisturizer so much and not sure why I’ve never tried it before. It’s super lightweight but feels really hydrating at the same time. I use this in the morning after washing and before putting on tinted moisturizer or makeup.
Face Finishing & Firming Tinted Moisturizer
If I’m just staying home for the day or need to run to the grocery store or for errands, I’ll throw this on with some mascara. It has SPF and give a subtle coverage that perfect for me.
Elemis Pro Collagen Cream Duo
I bought this duo on sale at QVC and absolutely love it! I love the Marine Cream better than the Overnight Matrix so when they both run out I’ll just re-up the Marine Cream. I use it at night, before bed and it’s so lightweight yet super hydrating at the same time and also doesn’t leave my face feeling sticky or greasy.
Bioderma Micellar Water
On the days that I don’t put on a full face of makeup, I use this to swipe off the tinted moisturizer before finishing my nighttime routine. I also swipe this all over my face first thing in the morning to get the overnight dirty off. I’ve tried about 3-4 different micellar waters and this one is hands down my favorite because it leaves me feeling the cleanest.
StriVectin Intensive Eye Concentrate
Picked this up at Costco on a whim one time and I actually like it a lot. It’s got a nice thick consistency and a little goes a long way. Not 100% sure it’s removing my fine lines but it does seem to keep them from getting deeper. Which I’ll take!
Peach & Lily Glass Refining Serum
I’ve heard great things about this serum and decided to give it a try. I put it on at night before my moisturizer and I love the way it helps hydrate my skin. Definitely a keeper.
Water Drench Hyaluronic Eye Patches
Always finding ways to combat those fine under-eye lines and wrinkles, I picked these up last time I was at Ulta. Love how hydrating they are on the nights when I wear them.
Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser
Another super gentle cleanser that I got on a recommendation of my derm and I really love. I bought one for the shower and one for next to my sink. It’s hydrating but also gets my face super clean.
Vitamin C Brightening Serum
This was another Costco grab and I’m glad I did. I apply it in the morning under my moisturizer and it just helps even my skintone. Definitely re-buy once I’m out.
Mary Jane CBD Glow Mask
This claims it’s a “mask” but it’s more like an occasional, super thick moisturizer. I’ve only used it a couple times and I can’t tell if it’s doing anything specific but I like the way it feels so I’ll at least use it till it’s empty.
That’s my current skincare routine! I would love to hear some of your favorite products – drop them in the comments below!
